Protecting Our Purring Friends: A Guide to Cat Vaccinations
At Los Gatitos de Marlies, we spend every day ensuring our rescues are healthy and happy. One of the most important tools we have to keep our sanctuary family safe is vaccination. Many people ask, 'Are vaccines really necessary for indoor cats?' The answer is a resounding yes.
Why Vaccinate?
Vaccines act as a shield against dangerous diseases that can spread easily through air, contact, or even on our shoes. Without them, even a simple cold can become life-threatening for a kitten or an older cat.
The Core Vaccines
- Rabies: Often required by law, this protects against a fatal virus that can affect both cats and humans.
- FVRCP: This combination vaccine covers three major illnesses: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (herpesvirus), Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia (distemper). Panleukopenia, in particular, is highly contagious and very dangerous.
By vaccinating your cat, you aren't just protecting your own companion; you are contributing to a healthier community of cats in Talamanca. If you have questions about your own cat's health, please speak to your local veterinarian. Remember, a vaccinated cat is a protected cat!
